Getting to Gdansk

There are many ways to get to Gdansk. There is an airport 15 km west of the city center that serves dozens of destinations in Europe. Furthermore, from the port of Gdansk and the ferry terminal in Gdynia various locations in Scandinavia and Germany can be reached by boat. The train station of Gdansk is right in the center and has many connections with major cities in Poland. The international bus terminal is also right next to the train station. Travelling by car may take a bit more time and effort, but allows you to see the beautiful surroundings of northern Poland.

Getting to Gdansk by car

Gdansk is located at the crossroads of a number of major roads. The A1(E75) is a new motorway (parly toll road) that goes south to Torun and Lódz, and is probably the best way to reach Warsaw (although road 7 (E77) is shorter in distance to Warsaw). Road number 6 (E28) leads west via Koszalin to Szczecin.

Getting to Gdansk by bus

There are quite a few bus companies that provide coach services to Gdansk from various cities in Europe. Eurolines and Sindbad are two companies with a wide coverage of destinations.

Getting to Gdansk by train

From Gdansk there are direct train connections to pretty much all major cities in Poland. 
The main train station of Gdansk (Gdańsk Główny) is right in the center of town, at a 10 minute walking distance west of the Old Town. From here Warsaw is served in less than 6 hrs, Bydgoszcz in 2,5 hrs and Szczecin in about 5 hrs.
Another large railway station is the one at Gdansk-Wrzeszcz. Check for time tables the website of the Polish State Railways, PKP.

Getting to Gdansk by boat

From Gdansk and nearby Gdynia there are various ferries with regular services to Scandinavia. From the port of Gdansk, Polferries has a connection with Nynäshamn in Sweden. From Gdynia, Stena Line operates a service to Karlskrona in Sweden. And Finnlines has a ferry connection to Helsinki in Finland.

Getting to Gdansk by plane

Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport is located 15 kilometers west of Gdansk. From here there are dozens of flights to all over Europe, both with regular as well as low cost airlines.
